Expanding brackets: the distributive law
Expanding is the process of removing brackets using the distributive law. The term in front of the bracket must multiply with each term within the bracket. For example:
a(b+c) = ab + ac
a(b-c) = ab - ac
a(b+c) = ab + ac
a(b-c) = ab - ac
