Finding the rule by looking for patterns
If a relationship between two variables is known to be linear, then the rule for this relationship can be found by looking for patterns using the following steps:
Step 1: Find the multiplication factor, which is how much the y value changed for every +1 of the x.
Step 2: Replace the multiplication factor "m" into y=mx+c.
Step 3: Substitute a coordinate into this equation to solve for c.
